New South Wales Fancy Rodent Society Inc.
Sydney based rat and mouse club that runs bi-monthly. Regular shows are held at the Richmond Guide Hall, with the NFRS Inc. also running shows at the Newcastle Regional Show, Hawkesbury Regional Show and the Sydney Royal Easter Show each year. The NFRS Inc. is now the oldest standing club of rats and mice in Australia founded in the late 1990's. Membership is not mandatory to exhibit at a show, the club hosts both a varieties standard section and a pet section for rats and mice to cater to friendly competition between rodent lovers, breeders and keepers of different preferences. The varieties standard section is the judging of rats and mice to a formal standard of excellence in all aspects of quality including colours, markings, coats, conformation (body type and structure), condition, health and temperament. The pet section is a more relaxed sector focusing on the temperament, health and condition of an animal; the most important core aspects that make for a great companion rat or mouse! The show also occasional holds fun competitions, and at every show there is a theme given in which exhibitors will decorate their enclosures and tables to for that day with an award given for the most creative display. The NFRS Inc. is the only body in which breeders of rats and mice in NSW can become a registered breeder. On the club website there is a directory for all current registered breeders of rats and mice in NSW to help you get in touch with a breeder.
