Mushroom Rodentry Adoption Policy
Please read the following policy before contacting us in regards to purchasing rodents from our rodentry.
1. It is the owners responsibility to provide ALL of the rodent(s) needs once it leaves our establishment. A replacement or refund will not be offered if a rodent is returned in a state of neglect.
2. Due to the natural community behaviour rats exhibit, rats will only be sold in a minimum of pairs unless the prospective buyer can prove they already have a rat(s) in their possession.
3. Male mice are known to fight for territory, they can cause each other harm and fights can be fatal. Due to this reason male mice will only be sold individually to pet homes. Note that this does not mean male mice are aggressive towards people, just other male mice.
4. Rats that leave our establishment will be no less than 10 weeks of age, mice no less than 10 weeks of age. NO exceptions.
5. We do not and will not take reservations for litters or expressions of interest, those wishing to purchase rodents from us will be served on a first in best dressed basis upon visiting the establishment or meeting us at shows. We will notify those interested what dates and time rodents are available for viewing. Customers are welcome to the establishment once litters are at least 6 weeks of age.
6. The rodent(s) will be paid for at the time of sale. Prospective buyers will be made aware of the purchase price of the rodent(s) prior to adoption.
7. Under no circumstances will we sell a rodent to a minor under the age of 18 without full authorisation from a parent/guardian/carer. If the minor fails to provide care for the rodent such responsibility shall fall upon the parent/guardian/carer.
8. We have the right to refuse the sale of a rodent (or rodents) at our discretion. We are not obliged to give a reason for a refusal.
9. All rats and mice being adopted must be picked up by the adopter and not by family/friends/coworkers. We will also not meet half way or at a meeting point, all rodents are to be picked up from our establishment in Lisarow, NSW or at AusRFS NSW Inc. shows. Prospective buyers MUST provde their own carrier/enclosure to transport the rodents in.
10. If the adopter needs to return the rodent(s) we will offer a full refund if returned within two weeks (14 days) of the adoption date, no questions asked. Rodents may still be returned after this date, however, a refund will not be provided.
11. It is the responsibility of the owner to arrange transportation of the rodent back to our establishment upon being returned.
12. If a rodent is bought back to our establishment it will remain at Mushroom Rodentry for the rest of it's life time and will not be re-homed. What then happens to the rodent(s) will be at our discretion.
13. In the rare event that an error occurs on our behalf we will endeavour to rectify the situation under the following conditions:
a.) Should a rodent that leaves our establishment be pregnant before adoption, we will provide the owner with support, advice and loan the use of a breeding tub, food and bedding. If the owner wishes for the litter to be birthed and raised at our establishment, care and rehoming of the babies will be as per our establishments usual practice and the owner of the doe will have no say in the fate of the offspring.
b.) Should a rodent be confirmed to have a parasite infestation within one week after adoption, we shall provide the new owner with a small amount of ivermectin to treat the rodent(s) with via post free of charge. A small 1mL syringe along with dosage rate and instructions will also be provided at no cost. All rodents are treated for parasites (external and internal) using ivermectin prior to being made available for adoption and at time of adoption.
c.) If a rodent displays a condition that is known to be genetic we will replace the rodent affected if an alternate rodent is available OR we will offer a 50% refund of the adoption fee of the rodent. All instances of genetically linked illnesses and conditions will be recorded and future adopters will be made aware of any potential ailments. Mushroom Rodentry will not reimburse any veterinary fees incurred by the adopters, it is the adopters choice to seek veterinary aid and which vet they prefer. Adopters are welcome to return the rodent, however as above, the rodent will remain at our establishment for the duration of it's life and treatment will be as we see fit.
Mushroom Rodentry endeavours to avoid the occurrence of such situations as listed in section 13 by taking many precautions within the establishment.
14. We are entitled to alter or modify this policy and any conditions stated within at our discretion and without notice if an update is required.
15. This policy does not apply to other rodentries and rodent keepers who we work in conjunction with.
16. Upon adoption of rodents from our establishment you agree to the terms and conditions of the adoption policy stated above. If you do not agree to the above conditions please DO NOT adopt a rat or mouse from Mushroom Rodentry!
